Dates: weekends 2/3, 9/10, 16/17 and 23/24 May
Opening times: 11am - 5pm
Location: Number 14 on the Fiveways trail (map below and details here).
I’m so excited to be taking part in Brighton’s annual celebration of creativity: Artists Open Houses. It’s a month long festival of art where artists fling open their doors to the public. My home is venue 14 on the Fiveways trail: Art at No. 70.
For anyone (like me!) who loves to see where art is made and how artists live, it’s heaven. Plus, lots of venues also open their gardens and have cake and refreshments available, which is exactly what we’ll be doing.
I’ve been working hard on a new collection of landscape paintings inspired by the Sussex South Downs and North Wales coast. Alongside my new original paintings, I will have mini wood block paintings, prints and greetings cards available.
Also exhibiting in the house will be photographer Ailsa McWhinnie, abstract artist Julian Stevens and ceramicist Vanessa Brook.
From Japan and elsewhere, Ailsa McWhinnie’s black and white photographs are inspired by people, places and light.
Julian Stevens is an emerging trans and queer artist living in Brighton whose abstract art is dynamic, colourful and thought provoking. Plus Vanessa Brook brings natural tones and delicate pattern with her earthy ceramics. There’ll be so much to explore!
Art at No. 70 (number 14 on the map below - look out for the bunting and banner!) is just a five minute walk from Fiveways and 10 minutes from London Road station. Come and visit and see other brilliant houses on the trail, we’re just around the corner from Jason Munro (13), Shanni Collins at Art House by the Postbox (12), Polly Raynes at Art at 202 (17) and Patrick Kennedy at Upfunt House (16).
Take a pause while you’re here - we’ll be serving a selection of delicious homemade cakes, teas, coffees and cordial in the garden.
Open from 11am to 5pm on the weekends of 2/3, 9/10, 16/17 and 23/24 May.
We’d love to see you!
Please note: access to the house is via a set of stairs which means the house is not wheelchair accessible. Please keep an eye on my Instagram for a virtual tour of the house.
How to find us - we are number 14 on the map above.
